The local trails here are closed from 2pm Friday until 6am Monday still so I had to get out there this morning to appreciate spring while I could. It started getting hot by the time I finished my hike around noon but a lovely day either way.
Also I got the 30 minutes until auction close on that super low mileage yellow s2k CR on BaT. Wanna guess how much it went for? A shit load!
As beautiful as it is and how it's basically a brand new car and how special these are, that's still a total CRAAAAAACK PIPE!

How far do you usually hike for these day hikes? I’m looking for stuff to do since I’m not working atm.

Today’s hike was about 7 miles or so, which is probably ideal for what I like to do. Although the last two weekends were more like 15-20 up in Los Padres. Unfortunately everything in LA County, even in the national park area, is closed 7 days a week. But that area between the closed Point Mugu state park and the county line is open. So basically just the sandstone peak trail and the mishe mokwa, along with little bits around there. There’s a nice sunset hike I’ve done a couple times now around there that’s just 3- 4 miles round trip.

In the 1980's I used to Mountain Bike back there. At least if you were where I think you were . I typically sta yed west of where you took this photo from; closer to Pt Mugu.
I think you we re up there where the Mountain Lions ha ng out.

Yup, those locations are correct! And yeah down below to the West there are definitely some great trails in there. I’d be riding them if it weren’t for the state park closure. Thankfully I at least got in there for one good ride before the closure!
Looking up at the same hills from the west, somewhere in sycamore Canyon

Yes, Sycamore Canyon is where I use to ride.
And yes great timing on your part. End of May and all that green will be well on it’s way to summer brown. Much of that burned right? Looks like it grew back good and quick.

Oh yeah all of that area burned pretty much. The spring fire in 2013 I think and then Woolsey fire in 2018. Both of those did immense damage along with the drought. But the last couple winters have been huge rain seasons so it's recovered nicely. Usually by early may it's already way brown so this is a special treat for sure.

Yeah they are certainly out there! Just gotta hope they are fed well enough by the deer instead.
